Meet The Team - Chris, Ops Manager

What’s your name and where are you from?

I'm Chris - I grew up in Govanhill, moved all around and then somehow ended up living about ten minutes away from my childhood home.

What does a day at Dear Green look like for you?

Every day is different, part of what makes it so much fun! Some days I can be roasting and packing beans, somedays speaking to suppliers all over the world, other times I'm just putting up shelves or washing the dishes. My priority is looking after the amazing team here and making sure they have what they need.

What's your favourite way to brew? Do you have any brewing tips? 

I make a moka pot every morning on the same battered old pot I've been using for years.

Be curious! There are so many incredible resources out there that you can keep learning about coffee forever. Listen to the experts but trust your palate - you're the one drinking it after all!

Your favourite Dear Green coffee?

Whatever the newest one is, usually. I really like a Central African and I'm absolutely loving the Natural Rwandan from Bumbogo that we have in right now.

What do you like most about working for a B Corporation? 

Working with coffee puts us in touch with global agriculture in a way that a lot of other industries don't and we see very directly the impacts of immoral business practices and the effects of climate change on our stakeholders. If we can show that running a successful business while prioritising the needs of the people we work with and the planet that, you know, we depend on for survival then hopefully we can inspire others to do so.

Aside from coffee, what are your passions? 

I love basketball, kabaddi and listening to music that usually makes other people say 'is it supposed to sound like this' and 'please stop that'.

If you could have coffee with anyone in the world, who would it be and why? 

I'd love to sit down with David Lynch and just find out what is going on in his mind. I bet he makes a damn fine cup of coffee too. 

What's something everyone should know about Dear Green?

That we're a very small team but that every single one of them is amazing.

What’s your favourite thing about speciality coffee?

It always blows my mind to look at a bean and think that someone in Africa or Central America picked that off a tree and it got all the way to the Calton.
