Colombia - Las Galeras - Washed
Full, Jasmine, Mixed Berries
The Department of Nariño is located in the southwest of Colombia and boasts no fewer than five volcanoes throughout the mountainous range. One of the volcanoes, Galeras, stands at a mighty 4,276 metres above sea level, of which the slopes are home to this single origin.
The volcano is still active, with its last eruption taking place in 2013. The coffee is grown on the slopes and surrounding hillsides, in which the soils have benefitted over time from the volcanic compounds that have been produced. The coffee is grown at 2,200 metres above sea level, which makes for some of the highest altitude grown coffee in the world. The high altitude of cultivation allows for a slow development of the coffee bean, which gives the profile in the cup such a unique character.
Producers in the region remain as small, self sufficient holders who all manage their own wet mills, patios and harvesting.
