What’s your name and where are you from?
My name is Kris and I’m from Glasgow!
What does a day at Dear Green look like for you?
Right now I’m mostly focussed on the marketing communications for Glasgow Coffee Festival. At Dear Green I’m currently working on marketing strategy, exploring different ways to push our brand to new people and connect with our amazing existing customers.
What's your favourite way to brew? Do you have any brewing tips?
When I first started exploring specialty coffee almost 10 years ago, I purchased a bag of coffee and a plastic V60 from Dear Green. I still use that same V60 to this day. Not so much a brewing tip, but what I would say is have fun and experiment. That’s what being interested in specialty coffee is all about.
Your favourite Dear Green coffee?
I would have to say the Ethiopian Odaco the producer that Dear Green recently visited. When I first tasted the coffee as a flat white it absolutely blew my mind. It’s everything that you could ever want from an Ethiopian coffee. Super fruity and sweet, but also delicate at the same time. It’s such a versatile coffee that can work on many different brew methods.
What do you like most about working for a B Corporation?
It’s great to work for a company that takes responsibility for its environmental impact and constantly adapts to reduce this impact. It’s inspiring and has definitely influenced me to make positive change to reduce my environmental impact at home.
Aside from coffee, what are your passions?
Mostly spending time with my family and making lots of memories. I suppose you could say I’m a bit of a nerd too. I read a lot (coffee & fiction), collect comics, listen to vinyl and try (and mostly fail) at being good at video games. I'm also a huge Ice Hockey fan!
If you could have coffee with anyone in the world, who would it be and why?
This is a tough one. There are so many people I’d love to share a coffee with. This will sound cliched, but it would probably be James Hoffman. I’ve followed his journey for over ten years, have all of his books, and would love to pick his brains for an hour or two. James would definitely be making the coffee though.
What's something everyone should know about Dear Green?
Some might know us for our super popular blends, but we are also roasting some of the best single origin coffee in the world at our roastery. Our roaster Anna is super talented and consistently roasts some of the best coffee in the city.
What’s your favourite thing about specialty coffee?
I would probably have to say community. There’s beauty in the fact that hundreds of thousands of people from across the globe are connected through a shared love of specialty coffee.
What tracks do you listen to for some seriously good vibes?
In my youth I was definitely a bit of an emo, but nowadays I mostly listen to deep & progressive house. Sometimes I’ll throw on some of the tracks I listened to when I was younger if I’m feeling nostalgic.
