OUR JOURNEY TO NET ZERO

It’s a tough thing to admit, but the coffee industry is responsible for contributing to the climate crisis whilst the very start of our supply chain is being greatly affected by it. That’s why Dear Green has pledged to reach Net Zero by 2030.

Stuff we’ve already done

  • Gained B Corp status, becoming a circular business as part of Glasgow’s reduction targets.
  • Became 1% for the Planet Certified, giving a percentage of our annual turnover to climate justice organisations.
  • Have a dedicated Sustainability team
  • Recorded our baseline emissions in Scopes 1, 2 and 3 to identify where we can further improve
  • Use an accredited program (Carbon Trust) to offset the greenhouse gas emissions generated by our activities that we cannot currently influence
  • Partnered with AgriEvolve and Omwani to create a coffee seedling nursery in Uganda

Stuff we’re doing every day

  • Measuring, monitoring and reporting on the environmental impact of our operations and business practices.
  • Acknowledging the transparency and traceability of our coffees.
  • Supporting projects that are committed to improving the coffee supply chain and investing in climate mitigation.
  • Recycling our waste - with nothing going to landfill
  • Donating coffee chaff to local community gardening projects
  • Tracking all employee travel with a Carbon Budget
  • Reusing, repurposing and recycling responsibly as part of our reduction plan.

Stuff we’re working on

  • Installing solar panels in our roastery
  • Upgrading our roastery to have double glazing
  • Installing an air-source heat pump
  • Uninstalling gas heating system
  • Upgrading our EV fleet
  • Voluntarily calculating our total carbon usage, including Scope 1, 2 and 3.
  • An overall carbon reduction plan for Net Zero 2030
