Introducing: Kenya Tegu AB
Every season, we look forward to fresh-crop Kenyan coffees. Cupping and choosing a delicious high-altitude lot from this coffee-producing country brings unmistakable excitement. Our latest drop from the Tegu is one that we are so proud to share due to its classic citrus acidity and nostalgic blackcurrant flavour notes. It's the throwback we didn't know we were looking for and we almost don't want to share it!
We are proud to welcome Kenya Tegu AB Washed to our seasonal lineup.
The Origin & Processing
Nestled in the cool mountain foothills between Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Range near Karatina town, the Tegu wet mill sits within the legendary terroir of Nyeri County. Operated by the Tekangu Farmers’ Cooperative Society (established back in 1969), the factory supports around 1,200 smallholder farming families who meticulously hand-pick ripe cherries across tiny, high-altitude plots (1,700–1,800 masl).
The classic Kenyan washed process here is an exercise in absolute precision:
-
Selection: Strict hand-sorting of fully ripe, deep red cherries.
-
Double Fermentation: After pulping, the coffee undergoes a meticulous double fermentation cycle to break down remaining mucilage.
-
The Soak: A pristine 24-hour underwater soak in fresh mountain water, locking in clarity, sparkling malic acidity, and structural complexity before being slowly dried on raised African beds.
