Meet the Team: Kenan, Production Roaster

  • 2 min read

What’s your name and where are you from?

Kenan Kiziloz, I'm from Turkey and I am Kurdish. I arrived in the UK and had refugee status but have recently had my citizenship ceremony, I am now proudly Scottish!

What does a day at Dear Green look like for you?

I start the day by brewing coffee and getting through our daily admin before processing all orders and packing them for the post/courier/delivery. Depending on the day, I check the coffee stock levels and roast or pack to make ready for the next days orders coming in!

What's your favourite way to brew? Do you have any brewing tips?

Moccamaster filter brewing is my favourite. My tip is to always purge the grinder with the beans you're using before you grind and brew. If you are using different origins of coffee beans each time you brew you can affect the flavour of the next brew if you don't purge. You don't want the flavour to be influenced by another coffee.

Your favourite Dear Green coffee?

I could say all of them! But my favourite origin is Colombia.

What do you like most about working for a B Corporation?

I’m so glad I’m part of a B Corporation business. We do our job but at the same time we care about our people and about the future of our planet.

Aside from coffee, what are your passions?

I love cooking. I used to work as a chef and I like to cook my traditional food. I also love to dance :)

If you could have coffee with anyone in the world, who would it be and why?

Dr. Sheldon Lee Cooper (Jim Parsons). I have been watching The Big Bang Theory over and over. He is so funny!

What's something everyone should know about Dear Green?

Dear Green does coffee in a truly ethical way!

What’s your favourite thing about specialty coffee?

When I drink specialty coffee I can identify complex flavour notes from the coffee origins.

What tracks do you listen to for some seriously good vibes?

Pride Classics of course! 🏳️‍🌈
